Notice of Intent To Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for 
Minuteman III System Dismantlement Based out of Grand Forks Air Force 
Base, ND

    In accordance with the 1995 Base Closure and Realignment Commission 
recommendations, the United States Air Force Space Command (AFSPC) is 
issuing this notice to advise the public that the Air Force intends to 
prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to assess potential 
environmental impacts of the dismantlement of the Minuteman (MM) III 
missile system based at Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota.
    Scoping meetings are planned in the towns of Langdon and 
Cooperstown,

North Dakota for the purpose of identifying environmental concerns that 
need to be addressed in the EIS. Notice of the times and locations of 
the meetings will be made available to the community using the local 
news media. The schedule for the scoping meetings is as follows:

    The purpose of these meetings is to identify the environmental 
issues and concerns that should be analyzed in developing the EIS. 
Public input and comments are solicited concerning the environmental 
aspects of the proposed program. To assure the Air Force will have 
sufficient time to fully consider public inputs on issues, written 
comments should be mailed to ensure receipt no later than July 15, 
1997.
