Capitol Park Associates (No. 1:99CV01901) was lodged with the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. The consent decree settles claims concerning residential apartment buildings in the District of Columbia that were brought on behalf of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under the Residential Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction Act 42 U.S.C. Sec. 4851 et seq. (``Lead Hazard Reduction Act''). The United States alleged in its complaint that defendants failed to provide information to tenants concerning lead-based paint hazards, and failed to disclose to tenants the presence of any known lead-based paint or any known lead-based paint hazards. This consent decree settles claims against Capitol Park for violations of the Lead Hazard Reduction Act. Capitol Park owns three buildings in the District of Columbia, containing 936 apartment units. Under the consent decree, Capitol Park will provide the notices and disclosures required by the Lead Hazard Reduction Act, will perform abatement measures to make apartment units lead-safe, will pay $10,000 in administrative penalties, and will perform a Child Health Improvement Project which consists of $15,000 of funding to support the Upper Cardoza Center, a low-income health clinic in Washington, provide health care, intervention and education for non-English speaking Families with one or more lead-poisoned children. The Department of Justice will receive for a period of thirty (30) days from the date of this publication comments relating to the consent decree. Comments should be addressed to the Assistant Attorney General of the Environmental and Natural Resources Division, Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. 20530, and should refer to United States v.
