• Evaluate whether the proposed collection of information is necessary for the proper performance of the functions of AmeriCorps, including whether the information will have practical utility;
• Evaluate the accuracy of the agency's estimate of the burden of the proposed collection of information, including the validity of the methodology and assumptions;
• Propose ways to enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected; and
• Propose ways to minimize the burden of the collection of information on those who are to respond, including through the use of appropriate automated, electronic, mechanical, or other technological collection techniques or other forms of information technology.

Comments

A 60-day Notice requesting public comment on this information collection was published in the Federal Register on July 20, 2026, at 91 FR 45267. The comment period ended September 18, 2026. Three comments were received in response to that notice. All three expressed support of PVSA generally and two expressly stated their strong support of the proposal to renew the information collection. One stated that the 20-minute requirement represents the minimum administrative input necessary to collect verifiable volunteer hours and represents an efficient and well-calibrated requirement to give certifying entities sufficient structure to log and confirm service hours. Another stated their support for renewing the current information collection without creating additional administrative burdens and while continuing to modernize the program through online tools to improve the experience for participating organizations. In response, AmeriCorps is continuing to review how online tools could be employed. The third commenter encouraged the Agency to consider several renovations to the PVSA program overall, which the Agency will consider and will account for any implications on the information collection that may result.

Abstract: AmeriCorps is soliciting comments concerning its proposed renewal of the President's Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA) application, parts A, B, C, D and E. The application form is used by organizations to review information on individuals' service contributions to determine eligibility and qualification for the President's Volunteer Service Award. AmeriCorps seeks to renew the current information collection without revisions. The information collection will be used in the same manner as the existing application. The currently approved information collection is due to expire on September 30, 2026.
