Abstract:
The High School and Beyond Longitudinal Study of 2022 (HS&B:22) is the sixth in a series of longitudinal studies at the high school level conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), within the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department of Education. HS&B:22 is following a nationally representative sample of ninth grade students from when they started high school in the 2022-23 school year. The base-year data collection was conducted in the 2022-23 school year with ninth grade students, with a high school transcript collection planned for 2027. The original study design included a first follow-up data collection when the modal sample would have been in 12th grade. A field test was completed, but not the full-scale data collection. This request is to obtain clearance to conduct the high school transcript collection for

HS&B:22 sample members, which includes contacting schools and a subset of students that may not have finished at their base-year high school.
NCES encourages the public to review the materials associated with this submission on
regulations.gov
and submit comments. Part A of this submission presents information on the basic design of the HS&B:22 High School Transcript Study (HSTS) data collection. Part B discusses the statistical methods employed. Appendix A provides the communication materials that will be used for school district, school, student, and parent data collection activities.
