Abstract of Information Available
Human remains representing, at least, one individual has been identified (Accession 763.SLO47). No associated funerary objects are present. Accession 763.SLO47 was collected from CA-SLO-47 in San Luis Obispo County, CA, near the area known today as Cave Landing. The collector and date of removal are unknown. On an unknown date, the ancestral remains were transferred to the UC Santa Barbara. In 2025, they were inadvertently discovered without collection documentation or collection history, but the human remains are Native American. In the absence of documentation identifying the original collector or controlling entity UC Santa Barbara assumed control based on possession. It is unknown whether the human remains were treated with preservative or other potentially hazardous substances.
Cultural Affiliation
Based on the information available and the results of consultation, cultural affiliation is reasonably identified by the geographical location or acquisition history of the human remains described in this notice.
