ACTION:

Request for public comment.

SUMMARY:

Notice is being given that the FAA is considering a request from the Fairbanks International Airport to release 40 (±) acres of federally obligated airport property at the Fairbanks International Airport, Fairbanks, Alaska. This acreage was acquired with federal financial assistance via Airport Improvement Program Federal Grants. The release of property will allow the Fairbanks International Airport to dispose of the property for non-aeronautical purposes.

DATES:

Comments must be received on or before November 30, 2026.

ADDRESSES:

Documents are available for review at the Fairbanks International Airport, 6450 Airport Way, Fairbanks, AK 99709, and the FAA Airports District Office, 222 W 7th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99513. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:

The property is located northwest of South Vanhorn and 5th Wheel Streets. The anticipated use of the property will be to facilitate expansion of a privately owned gravel mining company. The parcel is currently depicted on the approved Airport Layout Plan as undeveloped property with no planned aeronautical development. The property will be released of its federal obligations given the land is no longer required by the Fairbanks International Airport for aeronautical purposes. The property will be sold at the Fair Market Value (FMV) based on appraisal. Section 125 of The Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century (AIR-21) requires the FAA to provide an opportunity for public notice and comment prior to the “waiver” or “modification” of a sponsor's Federal obligation to use certain airport land for non-aeronautical purposes.
