Agency: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Title: National Marine Sanctuary Permits. Agency Form Number(s): None. OMB Approval Number: 0648-0141. Type of Request: Revision of a currently approved collection. Burden: 877 hours. Number of Respondents: 482 (multiple responses). Avg. Hours Per Response: Ranges between 15 minutes and 2 hours depending on the requirement. Needs and Uses: The Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act, provides for the establishment of National Marine Sanctuaries. The intended effect is to protect the conservation, recreational, ecological, historical, research, education and aesthetic qualities of these special areas. The Sanctuary regulations list specific activities that are prohibited. These otherwise prohibited activities are permissible if a permit is issued by NOAA. This information collection includes the applications for these permits and reports submitted following the conduct of the permitted activity. The application is used to make a decision on whether or not the project is of value and to determine if there are adequate safeguards to protect the environment. Affected Public: Not-for-profit institutions, businesses or other for-profit organizations, individuals, federal government, state, local or tribal government. Frequency: On occasion.
