DELAWARE RIVER BASIN COMMISSION


Notice of Public Hearing and Special Commission Meeting

    Notice is hereby given that the Delaware River Basin Commission 
will hold a public hearing and meeting for business on January 5, 1999 
at 10:00 a.m. in the Goddard Conference Room of the Commission's 
offices at 25 State Police Drive, West Trenton, New Jersey.

Possible Drought Emergency Declaration

    Section 10.4 of the Delaware River Basin Compact provides that in 
the event of a drought or other condition which may cause an actual and 
immediate shortage of available water supply within the Basin, or 
within any part thereof, the Commission may, after public hearing, 
determine and delineate the area of such shortage and declare a water 
supply emergency therein. For the duration of such emergency, the 
Commission could limit the extent to which water users may divert or 
withdraw water for any purpose. The Commission is considering whether 
current and developing conditions of water supply and demand require 
the declaration of a water supply emergency.
    The purpose of this hearing is to permit the public to comment on 
these matters and to make any suggestions or recommendations concerning 
possible Commission actions.
    There will be a business meeting of the Commission immediately 
following the hearing to consider possible Commission actions relating 
to the drought situation.
