Abstract: VA Form 26-6381, Application for Assumption Approval and/or Release from Personal Liability to the Government on a Home Loan is completed by Veterans who are selling their homes by assumption rather than requiring purchasers to obtain their own financing to pay off the loan. The data furnished on the form is essential to determinations for assumption approval, release of liability, and substitution of entitlement in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 3713(a) and 3714 and 3702(b)(2). The respondent count increased from 1,000 to 5,000, which also increased the annual burden hours from 167 hours to 835 hours. This was due to the increasing number of assumptions due to the availability of assumable low-interest rate loans in the currently high-interest rate environment.

Affected Public: Individuals and households.

Estimated Annual Burden: 835 hours.

Estimated Average Burden per Respondent: 10 minutes.

Frequency of Response: One-time.

Estimated Number of Respondents: 5,000.

Authority:44 U.S.C. 3501 et seq.

Shunda Willis,

Alternate, VA PRA Clearance Officer, Office of Information Technology/Data Governance Analytics, Department of Veterans Affairs.
