Overview of This Information Collection
Abstract:
ATF's Office of Science and Technology's Forensic Services offers a National Firearms Examiner Academy (NFEA) training program for entry-level firearms and toolmark examiners. This program is designed in part to address the critical law enforcement services provided by firearms and toolmark examiners, which all law enforcement organizations that perform ballistic and forensic firearms examinations require. This program curriculum is designed for qualified applicants from state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies, and newly appointed ATF firearms and toolmark examiners. To request enrollment in the NFEA, individuals in the law enforcement agencies, including ATF, must complete the Application for National Firearms Examiner Academy, ATF Form 6330.1. Form 6330.1 provides ATF with information necessary to determine an applicant's qualifications and whether they may be enrolled in the program: a candidate's identifying information, information on their qualifications, and whether they have completed prerequisites.

Revisions to This Information Collection
As part of this ICR renewal, ATF is making no revisions to this information collection, OMB 1140-0049. However, the annual hourly burden has decreased because the number of respondents went down from 75 to 50 over the past three years. This in turn resulted in a decreased total annual burden from 15 to 8.35 hours. ATF is making some minor edits to the form for plain writing compliance.
