SUMMARY:
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or Agency) is announcing the availability of the guidance entitled “Submission and Review of Sterility Information in Premarket Notification (510(k)) Submissions for Devices Labeled as Sterile.” This guidance updates and clarifies the information regarding sterilization processes that FDA recommends sponsors include in 510(k)s for devices labeled as sterile. This guidance document also provides details about the pyrogenicity information that FDA recommends sponsors include in a 510(k) submission.

Submit either electronic or written comments on this guidance at any time. General comments on Agency guidance documents are welcome at any time. The recommendations in this guidance will be implemented on March 21, 2016.

Instructions: All submissions received must include the Docket No. FDA-2008-D-0611 for “Submission and Review of Sterility Information in Premarket Notification (510(k)) Submissions for Devices Labeled as Sterile; Guidance for Industry and Food and Drug Administration Staff; Availability.” Received comments will be placed in the docket and, except for those submitted as “Confidential Submissions,” publicly viewable at http://www.regulations.gov or at the Division of Dockets Management between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
